Who are you as a designer?
As a designer I am working in the space between innovation and tradition. I believe technology will help us create a more sustainable fashion industry, while I also appreciate the craftsmanship of the past. Crochet, in particular, holds a special place in my heart, and I’ve been inspiring others to learn the art of crochet for a few years now by creating digital clothing patterns.
What are your strengths as a designer?
I have a sensitivity for subtle details and nuances while having a capability to see the big picture. My experience has come from working in my own business, which has, most of all, taught me about the importance of listening to and understanding the user. I consider myself as a creative and highly empathetic person with a critical and analytic approach to design. My strengths are in my ability to prioritize, focus on the essential, and to generate and communicate ideas.
How do you work with sustainability?
I use materials and resources mindfully, aiming to minimise waste and reduce the use of virgin materials. It’s also important to consider the life cycle of a product in the early design phase. But before anything I think that building a stronger connection to nature would help us develop new and innovative ways towards sustainability.
What do you want from the future?
I want to develop my skills with 3D modelling and other digital tools, which are integral to the future of fashion. I am also interested in UI/UX design, understanding that the user experience plays a central role in creating meaningful and functional products. After studies I would want to work in a role that enables me to collaborate with professionals from other fields as well, and to diversely use my creative skills.
