Glass and Ceramics

Who are you as a designer?

I am a fourth-year ceramics student. Before my sustainable design studies, I studied engineering and industrial design at HAMK. I work with recycled materials and domestic clays and am looking for more sustainable ways to produce pottery.

What are your strengths as a designer?

I design our models with 3D CAD and am very keen on mold design in general. We replace some of the virgin raw materials with recycled glass, eggshells, stone powders, and wood ash.

How do you work with sustainability?

We use Finnish red clays and kaolin. But my favorite raw material of all is iron oxide roast which gives nice brown colours to the clay. It is so beautiful it doesn't even need glazing. But how to convince people to use pottery that is made of industrial waste, no matter how safe it is after firing? I have my own label Roska Keramiikka. We make everyday items such as large tea mugs. But don't worry - the industrial waste is kept for decoration purposes only!
